A central part of this community spirit is the work of Bandon Tidy Towns, which actively collaborates with local sports clubs, schools and voluntary groups to enhance shared spaces and strengthen participation across the town. Through ongoing partnerships, Tidy Towns supports improvements to club facilities, landscaping and accessibility, helping to create welcoming environments for all. Club participation days, hosted as part of Tidy Towns events, provide opportunities for people of all ages and abilities to try new activities, connect with local organisations and become more involved in community life.

Bandon strongly promotes active and healthy lifestyles through its wide range of sports and recreation options. The historic Bandon Golf Club, an 18-hole parkland course set on the Castle Bernard estate since 1909, attracts golfers from across the region and beyond. Meanwhile, Bandon Athletic Club fosters running and fitness for all ages and abilities. The town is also home to numerous other clubs including rugby, GAA, soccer, tennis and martial arts, alongside modern community spaces and parks, making Bandon a lively hub for sport, culture, family activities and social connection.

Bandon Golf Club

Set within the scenic Bandon River Valley, the 18-hole parkland course forms part of the historic Castlebernard Estate. The club places strong emphasis on landscape management, biodiversity and the preservation of its natural surroundings, reflecting the town’s commitment to environmental stewardship.

Running Track Lines

Markets

Bandon has three thriving markets for you to visit. Regular farmers’ and country markets supporting local producers and short supply chains Encourages sustainable food choices and reduced food miles Creates a vibrant, inclusive community space within the town centre Markets contribute positively to town animation, cleanliness and local economic vitality There is an abundance of quality food on our doorstep. Traditionally known as the gateway to West Cork, Bandon offers so much more for those who wander its’ streets. ​Three traditional markets still service the town alongside more modern fare. There are two authentic food markets, the Indoor Country Market operating for over 40 years which is open on Friday and Saturday mornings (8:30-1pm). They regularly host tastings days with a choice of falafel and salads, sourdoughs, soda and health loaves, traditional jams, cordials and curds, vegetables and herbs, cakes and flowers all grown and produced within a five-mile radius. The outdoor farmers market on Saturday mornings are from 10:00 to 14:00 and offers lots of local produce that include vegetables, salads, fish, meat as well as fresh pancakes and coffee. For over 100 years the Buttimer Family have supplied fresh fish to Bandon and Julie continues the tradition to this day. supplies the town with fresh fish at our aptly locally named ‘Fish Corner’ every Friday. Artisan Food shops and Master Butchers ensure that we are spoiled for choice with abundance and quality on our doorstep.

A strong and diverse mix of independent shops, cafés, restaurants, and essential services underpins the vitality of the centre, encouraging people to shop locally and spend time in the town. This is further strengthened by ongoing community involvement, with local pride and participation playing a key role in litter control, upkeep, and the positive presentation of shared spaces. Together, these qualities allow Bandon to continue its historic role as a vibrant and sustainable market town, balancing economic activity, social life, and environmental responsibility.

Civic & Public Facilities

Bandon Civic Amenity Site plays a central role in supporting responsible waste management by providing accessible facilities for recycling, reuse, and the correct disposal of a wide range of materials, helping to minimise environmental impact and reduce landfill use. Through its operation and public engagement, it promotes environmental awareness and encourages positive waste behaviours among residents, reinforcing a culture of sustainability at local level. In addition, a range of other civic and public facilities across Bandon contribute significantly to community life, including community halls, libraries, sports and recreation facilities, schools, health services, and local authority buildings. These spaces provide inclusive and flexible venues for local groups, voluntary organisations, cultural activities, and public events, supporting social interaction and community cohesion. Facilities are generally maintained to a high standard, with strong attention to cleanliness, accessibility, and safety, ensuring they remain welcoming and functional for people of all ages and abilities. Strong community ownership and local pride underpin the success of these amenities, with local involvement playing a key role in ongoing upkeep, presentation, and the long-term sustainability of the town’s shared civic assets.
