Bandon and Tidy Towns

Bandon first entered the Tidy Towns Competition in 1963. Both the competition and Bandon’s involvement in it have evolved over the years. Over the past decade Bandon has performed well, achieving a bronze medal every year since 2015.This has been down to our focus on litter control, landscaping and planting and creating amenities and public art works forour community and visitors to enjoy. But the competition is not solely about aesthetics and we have also been developing ourstrengths in areas such as biodiversity and sustainability.

Overall, we dedicate thousands of voluntary hours every year to improve our town and strengthen our community within the eight Tidy Towns categories.

  • Community – Your Planning and Involvement

  • Streetscape & Public Places

  • Green Spaces and Landscaping

  • Nature and Biodiversity in your Locality

  • Sustainability – Doing more with less

  • Tidiness and Litter Control

  • Residential Streets & Housing Areas

  • Approach Roads, Streets & Lanes

Of course, the competition is not just judged on the efforts of a single group of volunteers. Instead the involvement and effort of the whole community in Bandon to make our town a better place to live, work and visit is what counts

We are fortunate to not only have a dedicated core group of volunteers but also involvement from Bandon’s sports clubs, voluntary and community groups, businesses, Cork County Council and a range of state agencies and NGOs.

But we need everyone involved. No matter what your age, ability, background or time constraints, there are so many ways for you to contribute. The first step is very simple… contact us to find out how you can get involved
