From athletics and fitness at Bandon Athletic Club, founded in 1964 and continuing to thrive with plans for a new state-of-the-art facility, to the strong community spirit that delivered a much-needed inclusive playpark, recreation in the town is underpinned by local commitment and pride. Walking and outdoor activity are well supported by amenities such as the Clare O’Leary Walk, following the former railway line, and nearby Dromkeen Wood, both reflecting the area’s connection to landscape and adventure. Team sports are central to community life, with Bandon GAA, Bandon Ladies Football and Bandon Camogie Club based at Charlie Hurley Park, alongside the strong legacy of Bandon Rugby Club, which recently marked its 125th anniversary.
