The annual National Spring Clean campaign takes place around the country next month, from April 1st to 30th.

In 2013, there were 5,351 clean-up events nationwide with over 550 tonnes of litter collected and approximately 35% of the total amount of waste collected was recycled.

St Patrick's Day Parade
We really enjoyed participating in the Bandon St Patrick's Day parade once again this year.
The great weather encouraged a huge turnout and the atmosphere was terrific.
Its great to see that Bandon has so many clubs and groups that are so well subscribed and vibrant.
Well done to the organisers for all their hard work and efforts once again.
Local schools lend a hand during National Tree Week
Students from Laragh National School and Bandon Grammar School were busy during National Tree Week planting in the grounds of their respective schools. The students planted a mixture of native white-thorn and oak saplings and learned all about the importance of trees for wildlife and bio-diversity.
Bandon Tidy Towns planted saplings along the outer by-pass road, and to date we have nearly 300 saplings planted along this section of roadway.
A very big 'thank you' goes out to Bandon & Gaggin Game Protection Association for their very generous donation of 100 tree saplings to Bandon Tidy Towns for National Tree Week 2015.

Projects that are ready and imminent are:
- 2 Benches to be sited on the Clonakilty Rd in the area that tidy towns landscaped between St Annes house and Bernards bridge. This area has also been pruned of overhanging tree limbs recently. This should come as a welcome relief for the many walkers and joggers that use this popular walking route.
- A picnic table will be installed by the Bandon skatepark and MUGA facility in the coming weeks. Tidy towns are also doing a general clean-up of the river park in advance of the summer. We will also be replenishing the bark mulch and gravel in the river park.. Control measures are also being looked at in relation to littering issue at skatepark and MUGA. Grass control measures around the base of the fence in the skatepark will also be addressed.
- Work on our new landscaping project across from Bandon Fire Station will begin in the next couple of weeks and we will be brightening up this unkempt area low maintenance shrubbery. Keep an eye out for more news on this project shortly.

New 'Welcome to Bandon' sign has been commissioned
A new granite sign for the eastern approach to Bandon has now been commissioned and it is hoped to have this sited by early Spring.
The granite sign has the word 'Bandon' in both English and Irish and has a depiction of Bandon bridge on it. We have begun preliminary work on the area close to Billy Cahalanes service station, clearing away overgrowth from the bend just before you enter the 60kph zone. This is to give more visibility to the sign also to generally clean the area and creating a good, clean, kept and inviting image of Bandon to all as they enter the town.

Allin Square Garden: Work in progress
Work began in Autumn clearing the site of vegetation that had gone unsightly and overgrown in the Allin Square around the 'Maid of Erin' statue. We are mapping out a new contemporary garden in conjunction with residents in the area. A new path will be created into the garden and a new circular seating area around the base of the monument will transform this neglected area.
Bypass Road cleanup
We have had a busy start to the new year with major overgrowth and kerd weed in the vicinity of the bypass road being cut back and and cleared. We engaged a contractor to cut and shape the whitethorn trees that are growing on the eastern side of the bypass between DID Electrical and Nyhans Garage and also to cut back overgrowth on the western end in front of the boundary of the Convent School and directly opposite. The kerb weed that was encroaching on the footpath was cleared by our partner team in TUS. Work was completed just in time for the new year so as to make this popular walking/running route safe and accessible for everyone.
New anti-litter signage erected in Bandon Skatepark
We have erected our new bespoke anti-litter signs in the skate park. The eye catching signs were specifically designed for Bandon skatepark to be informative and attention grabbing without being obtrusive or patronising. Already these signs have had a positive impact in litter prevention and have received favourable comments from skateboarders and the public in general. Hopefully these signs will have a positive impact in the reduction of litter which has plagued the skatepark since its opening. It is very important that this area is kept litter free, particularly since it is so visible and it lies at the entrance to our town & the West Cork area in general. It is vital that tourists, business travellers and all who pass through Bandon get a good first and positive impression of our town.
